Active Kids Get Talking national conference

The brief

The conference ended a year-long programme to consult with 32,000 UK schools. Research was conducted to understand the issues that affect young people and how the Active Kids scheme could develop to meet their needs. Sainsbury’s then held a series of regional conferences where pupils presented their ideas. Powwow planned and executed the National Conference that marked the end of this consultation period.

The solution

The Conference was held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, where 11 UK schools presented their ideas to 50 stakeholders including nutritionists, health leaders and government members. In addition, a selection of inspirational celebrity speakers were invited, including entrepreneur Peter Jones and Reggae Reggae sauce creator Levi Roots, Dame Kelly Holmes, gold medallist Jamie Staff and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen chef Aaron Craze. The event was chaired by Angelica Bell from BBC’s Newsround. In the words of the client, “the event was a tremendous success and met a number of objectives. It generated some fantastic ideas which Sainsbury’s developed in the Active Kids 2009 / 2010 campaign and beyond. It also provided a terrific platform for Sainsbury’s to engage and share their views with key stakeholders. Finally, it reinforced Sainsbury’s credibility for being the supermarket that leads the way in helping young people lead healthy, active lifestyles.
