Let’s not forget about the positive impact of events!

In a fast-paced world filled with daily routines and digital distractions, events serve as powerful catalysts for positive change in people's lives. Time out to learn and develop, both personally and professionally, and reconnect and bond with our colleagues or industry peers.

It can be easy to forget that. We’ve all experienced that feeling when a conference or event invite pops into your inbox, and your heart sinks because it’s on a Monday in February, and you don’t like going into the office on Mondays (especially during winter) as that’s your designated work from home day. Or it’s an evening event, and it clashes with your yoga class. Or you are just too busy.

Excuses can often come easy. Even those of us that work in events can sometimes get stuck in that negative mindset and focus on all the reasons why we shouldn’t go to an event or can’t find the time to bring our teams together.

However, it wasn’t that long ago that we were all racing back to events post-pandemic because we missed them so much and craved human connection and in person experiences after lockdown. 2022 and 2023 have been a goldrush for events.

And while the outlook for the remainder of 2024 is also strong, with some businesses struggling to get their teams to even come into the office regularly and everyone so busy again, we understand that getting people to feel enthusiastic about coming to events can feel like more of a challenge than ever.

But cast your mind back to the last event you attended personally, and chances are, you’ll remember many positive outcomes from it and were glad you went. Many of the Powwow team have taken the time to attend several industry networking events recently, and we also held our own company off-site at Gleneagles, reminding us all why events are so great, why we love what we do, and giving us renewed vigour and inspiration for the year ahead.

Events are good for our wellbeing. Human connection makes us feel happier, while the opportunity to learn and develop makes us feel fulfilled and helps us to do our jobs better. On top of that, shared experiences contribute to better relationships, and a stronger, more supportive company or industry community.

There is of course some hard work and strategy required to achieve these outcomes. It is vital to make sure your event has a clear purpose and give your audience a compelling reason or reasons to attend. Be clear about what they will gain, whether that be knowledge exchange, learning and development, the opportunity to make new connections, or networking and relationship building.

Don’t lose focus on the content, and make sure that it, and the event overall, delivers on those promises. Be innovative and creative, find new ways to captivate and connect with your audience and create lasting memories. Remind them just how powerful and positive events can be, so that next time that invite pops into their inbox, those they won’t even think about finding an excuse and talking themselves out of attending, because the answer will be a resounding YES.

If all that sounds good to you, as experts with more that 25 years’ experience in creating memorable events, the Powwow team are poised to help. So, if you would like some help in creating events that leave a lasting positive impact on your attendees, get in touch and book a free consultation now.
