The annual Tusk Conservation Awards celebrate the extraordinary people who work with wildlife and communities in Africa to protect the continent's irreplaceable natural assets.
It is produced in partnership with Investec Asset Management (now Ninety One).
What.
In 2019, the Tusk Awards radically changed format – the new vision was that the event became the ‘Oscars’ of the conservation world.
Previously held as a dinner only, the event was transformed into a green-carpet film screening and awards ceremony. Held at London’s Cineworld Leicester Square IMAX Theatre, creating impact with the nominees documentary films being shown in a way they had never been viewed before.
A dinner followed for select guests, hosted at the National Portrait Gallery.
The guestlist included many high-profile conservationists and Tusk supporters, as well as Tusk’s Royal Patron, Prince William.
How.
Powwow was asked to help when it became apparent that there was considerably more logistical complexity in staging this very different, high profile event.
We joined the Tusk and Investec team, offering our project and event management knowledge and support to enhance the guest experience – combining creativity with functionality.
We took on the green carpet logistics, complex security process and guest management. Working with the local authority to ensure supplier access was granted to Leicester Square, and approvals were gained for entertainment.
With royal attendance, the security and guest logistics were key to the success of the event. Staged arrival times kept an even flow on the green carpet, and ensured everyone was in place for Prince William’s arrival.
Particular consideration was put into the goody bags given to guests, taking care to choose ethical brands trusted by Tusk.
